Wampanoag chief who befriended English colonists

Squanto

Native American who helped the English colonists in Massachusetts plant corn and other crops. He was also an interpreter between the colonists and the Wampanoag.

William Bradford

A Pilgrim, the second governor of the Plymouth colony. He helped the colony survive droughts, crop failures, and Indian attacks.

1620 - The first agreement for self-government in America. It was signed by the 41 men on the Mayflower.

Puritan

A religious group who wanted to purify the Church of England. They came to America for religious freedom and settled Massachusetts Bay.

King Phillip's War

War between the Native American tribes of New England and British colonists that took place from 1675-1676.

Pequot War

1637 The Bay colonists wanted to claim Connecticut for themselves but it belonged to the Pequot. The colonists burned down the native american village and 400 were killed.
