Temporal Dimensions
Aspects of behavior that are related to time, including duration, latency, and interresponse time.
Duration
The total amount of time from the start to the end of a behavior or individual response.
Latency
The time between the presentation of a stimulus and the onset of a response.
Interresponse Time (IRT)
The time elapsed between the end of one response and the beginning of the next.
Onset
The start of a behavior.
Offset
The end of a behavior.
Continuous Measurement
Measurement of behavior that is ongoing and uninterrupted over time.
Discriminative Stimulus (SD)
A stimulus that signals the availability of reinforcement for a specific behavior.
Clear Beginning and End
A defining feature of behaviors measured by duration and frequency.
Increased Compliance
Goal of measuring latency to reduce the time for a learner to respond to a prompt.
Whole Interval Measurement
A type of discontinuous measurement where a behavior is recorded as occurring if it occurs for the entire interval.
Partial Interval Measurement
A type of discontinuous measurement where a behavior is recorded as occurring if it occurs at any point during the interval.
Momentary Time Sampling
A type of discontinuous measurement that records behavior at specific moments.
Behavior Frequency
The number of times a behavior occurs within a specified time frame.
Pacing of Behavior
The measurement of how quickly or slowly a response occurs.
