Active phase
can last for a long time, stage where psychotic symptoms, such as hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized speech, are most pronounced and severe
Affective Flattening
bland facial expressions, lack of eye contact, flat speech
Alogia
loss of words, one-word responses/decreased quality or quantity of speech
Anhedonia
no joy, losing interest in activities one enjoys (video games)
Avolition
lack of motivation/inability to initiate or follow through on plans (showering, cooking, socializing)
Brief psychotic disorder
short-term mental health condition characterized by the sudden onset of psychotic symptoms, such as hallucinations, delusions, or disorganized speech

Dementia praecox
Originally used to describe schizo (premature dementia), premature mental deterioration. refers to the cognitive decline or loss of mind/Praecox means early
Negative symproms
missing emotions(emotional expression), absent or diminished in schizo ppl/ diminished emotional expression
Neuroleptics
medication used to treat schizo (block neurotransmitters)
Positive symproms
unusual thoughts, feelings and behaviors
Prodromal phase
early, often subtle, stage of a disease or mental health condition before full-blown symptoms appear. (Social withdrawal, difficulty concentrating, odd beliefs, mild hallucinations, before a psychotic episode.calm before storm)
Residual phase
doing better but not great, occurs after an active psychotic episode, characterized by a decrease in intense positive symptoms (hallucinations, delusions)
Schizoaffective Disorder
both schizo and affective disorder. Suffers from major depressive, maniac or mixed episodes of disorder (with a major mood disorder, such as bipolar disorder (mania) or depression)
Schizophrenia
disorganization in thought, perception, and behavior.
Schizophreniform disorder
duration of illness is shorter, ranging from one month to less than six months/ lasts for a shorter duration, specifically more than one month but less than six months
Shared psychotic
Disorder, when two or more people who have a close relationship share the same delusional belief. (folie à deux)
Psychosis
a severe mental condition characterized by loss of contact with reality.
Hallucination
false sensory perception (seeing, smelling, feeling something)
Tardive dyskinesia
abnormal involuntary motor movements of the face, mouth, and limbs
Token Economy
giving stickers, points, coins (reinforces desired behaviors)
Mutism
inability or profound unwillingness to speak, resulting in the absence of verbal communication.
Negativism
Patient with schizophrenia resisting care, refusing to eat, or doing the opposite of instructions.(doesn’t want to do it)
Stereotyped movements
Repetitive, functionless involuntary behaviors(catatonia- person awake but responsive)
Asociality
lack of motivation or desire to engage in social interaction(negative symptom) withdrawl from social relationships
