Variable
A symbol, usually a letter (e.g., x, y), that represents an unknown numerical value in an expression or equation.
Constant
A fixed numerical quantity that does not change.
Algebraic Expression
A combination of variables, constants, and mathematical operations that does not contain an equality sign.
Monomial
An algebraic expression with only one term.
Binomial
An algebraic expression with two terms.
Trinomial
An algebraic expression with three terms.
Algebraic Equation
A mathematical statement that shows two expressions are equal and contains an equality sign.
Order of Operations
A set of rules (PEMDAS/BODMAS) that dictates the sequence in which operations should be performed.
Addition Property of Equality
If a = b, then a + c = b + c.
Subtraction Property of Equality
If a = b, then a - c = b - c.
Multiplication Property of Equality
If a = b, then a × c = b × c (where c ≠ 0).
Division Property of Equality
If a = b, then a/c = b/c (where c ≠ 0).
Exponents
Indicate the number of times a base number is multiplied by itself.
Basic Operations
Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division used in algebra to manipulate expressions and equations.
Solving Equations
The process of finding the values of the variable(s) that satisfy an equation.
