validity
How far something measures what it is supposed to measure
Face validity
The extent to which a measure at face value, appears to test what it is supposed to
Population validity
The extent to which findings from one sample can be generalized to another
External validity
The extent to which the findings can be generalized outside of the study
Construct validity
The extent to which a measure measures all aspects of a theoretical concept
Criterion validity
The extent to which a measure can predict future behaviours
ecological validity
The extent wo which findings from a study reflect real life behaviour
Internal validity
The extent to which we can be certain our DV is changing because of the manipulation of the IV
Concurrent validity
The extent to which a measure will produce similar results a another measure measuring the same thing
Reliability
How consistent a research study is
Internal reliability
How consistent the materials and measures are within a study
Inter-rater reliability
How far two researchers agree with each other following independent rating of a measure
External reliability
How consistent the measure will be when used on different people and in different places
Split half reliability
How consistent the results of the measure would be if split the test in half, gave them to the participants in theses halves and then correlated them
Test-retest reliability
How consistent the responses of an individual would be if they did the test again
reliability in experiments - lab
high reliability due to standardisation and strict procedures
reliability in experiments - field and Quasi
low reliability as it is often hard to mimic the same conditions of the IV in repeats
