MOVE IT campaign
A public awareness initiative by Maryland, Montgomery County, and Prince George’s County that urges motorists involved in minor, non-injury crashes to move drivable vehicles off the roadway to improve safety and reduce traffic backups.
Property Damage Collision
A motor-vehicle crash in which no one is injured and only vehicles or property are damaged.
Secondary Accident
A collision that occurs as a result of congestion or hazards created by an initial crash, accounting for up to 30 % of all accidents.
Collision Information Exchange Form
A checklist card motorists keep in their glove box to record and swap key data (driver, vehicle, insurance, location) after a crash; not an official police report.
MAIS report
Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department’s patient/collision report that responders complete and have involved parties sign at non-injury crashes.
Drivable Vehicle
A vehicle that can be safely moved under its own power after a collision—qualifying it to be ‘moved’ under the MOVE IT guidelines.
Hazard Lights
Flashing vehicle lights used to warn other drivers of a stopped or disabled vehicle, especially when a damaged vehicle cannot be moved.
Police Call Criteria
Situations requiring police notification after a crash: injury, non-movable vehicle, intoxicated driver, unlicensed driver, hit-and-run attempt, or public-property damage.
Traffic Backup
A line of slowed or stopped vehicles caused by roadway obstructions such as unattended crash vehicles.
