What is a mixture made of, and what is important to remember about them
Two or more substances physically combined, they are NOT chemically bonded, each substance keeps its own properties, and it can be separated using physical methods.
What are the types of mixtures, and some characteristics of them
Homogenous mixture:
Looks the same throughout, evenly distributed components. e.g sat water, air, vinegar
Heterogeneous mixture:
Visible different parts, components are not evenly distributed. e.g sand and water, oil and water
What is a volatile substance
Evaporates easily, with a relatively low boiling point
What is a non-volatile substance
does not evaporate easily, a low boiling point
What physical property does sieving take advantage of/ how does it work
The different meshes of the sieve allow smaller particles to pass through while larger particles are trapped.
