painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, installation art, mixed media works, illustration, graphic arts, performance art and/or imaging;

Order of the National Artists Award/Orden ng Gawad Pambansang Alagad ng Sining

is the highest national recognition given to Filipino individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts

National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP)

Fernando Amorsolo

first awarded. National Artist for Painting; famous for romantic rural landscapes and idealized portraits from the Commonwealth and WWII era.

Napoleon Abueva

National Artist for Sculpture; contributed significantly to UP’s visual arts heritage and modern sculpture.

A 1978 abstract expressionist mural in the UP Virata School of Business using overlapping planes and earthy colors.

National Artist for Visual Arts; known for abstract expressionism.

Church of the Holy Sacrifice (UP Diliman)

First circular Catholic church in the Philippines (1955), with a thin-shell concrete dome; declared a National Historical Landmark and Cultural Treasure.

Jose Maceda

National Artist for Music; founder of UP Center for Ethnomusicology and collector of indigenous sound recordings.

Pagsamba by Jose Maceda

A composition involving 100 mixed voices and indigenous instruments like bamboo buzzers and clappers.

UNESCO Memory of the World (Maceda)

International recognition awarded to Maceda for his ethnomusicology work and collections.
