Power
The exponent to which a base is raised.
Polynomial
A sum of a finite number of terms where each term has a coefficient multiplied by a variable raised to a non-negative integer power.
Coefficient
A numerical factor in a term of a polynomial.
Degree of a polynomial
The degree of the term with the highest degree in a polynomial.
Product Rule
To multiply powers with the same base, add the exponents.
Quotient Rule
To divide powers with the same base, subtract the exponents.
Negative exponent
The negative exponent results in the reciprocal of the base.
Greatest Common Factor (GCF)
The largest factor that divides two or more numbers.
Least Common Multiple (LCM)
The smallest multiple common to two or more numbers.
Percentage
A part or portion of 100, often expressed as a fraction of the total.
Direct Proportion
Two quantities are in direct proportion if they increase or decrease at the same rate.
Inverse Proportion
Two quantities are in inverse proportion if an increase in one results in a decrease in the other at the same rate.
Scientific Notation
A way of expressing numbers as a product of a coefficient and a power of 10.
Standard Form
A polynomial where the terms are arranged in descending order of their exponents.
Leading Term
The first term in the standard form of a polynomial.
