Real Number

Any number that can be used to measure a distance or a quantity.

Natural Numbers

Counting numbers: 1, 2, 3, …

Integers

Whole numbers plus the negative values of each: … , -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, …

Whole Numbers

Natural numbers plus 0: 0, 1, 2, 3, …

Rational Numbers

Numbers that can be written as fractions or decimal numbers

Irrational Numbers

Numbers that have no pattern when written as a decimal number.

Infinite Set

A set of numbers that keeps going and has no end.

Adding Integers with the Same Signs

Add the numbers and use the sign on the numbers.

Adding Integers with Different Signs

Subtract the numbers and use the sign on the larger number.

Subtracting Integers

Change the subtraction sign to an addition sign and change the sign on the integer after subtraction to its opposite.

Multiplying and Dividing Integers

Multiply/Divide digits together, and the answer is positive if the signs are the same and negative if the signs are different.

Reciprocal

A number that when multiplied by a given number equals 1

Least Common Denominator (LCD)

Used to simplify fractions when the fractions have different denominators.

Proper Fraction

when the numerator is smaller than the denominator.

Improper Fraction

when the numerator is larger than the denominator.

Mixed Fraction

consists of an integer and a proper fraction.

Multiply the numerators and denominators.
