Snoring
partial upper airway obstruction (usually the tongue blocking the oropharynx)
Wheezing
indicates narrowing of the bronchioles in the lower airway, heard on exhalation as high pitched sounds
Crackles
air trying to pass through fluid in the alveoli, rattling breath sounds, lower airway
Rhonchi
low pitched rattling sounds caused by secretions in the large airway
Stridor
high pitched sounds heard on inspiration which indicates air trying to pass through an obstruction in the upper airway
