what is conduction
the transfer of heat through solids
How does conduction work
heat placed on solid = heat is transferred to the solid bc of its regular structure = particles vibrate faster
What is convention
the transfer of heat through liquids
how does convection work
heat is tranfered to fluid, fluid expands and becomes less dense, particles gain kinetic energy, liquid rises when heat is transferred, liquid reaches the top then loses kinetic energy, cool liquid gains kinetic energy and the cycle restarts
what is thermal radiation
the transfer of heat through waves, there is no need for particles
What can effect absorption of heat
lightness/darkness of material, surface area, temp of material
what is thermal expansion
when particles gain kinetic energy when being heated causing them to vibrate faster. this makes the object expand
