Muscle Contraction
When there is tension in a muscle.
Isometric Contraction
Muscle contraction where the length of the muscle stays the same, but tension changes.
Isotonic Contraction
Muscle contraction where the tension in the muscle stays the same, but the muscle length changes.
Concentric Contraction
Muscle contraction where the tension in the muscle initially increases until the amount of tension required to perform the action is reached, then the tension remains constant, while the muscle length decreases.
Eccentric Contraction
Muscle contraction where the tension in the muscle initially decreases until the amount of tension required to perform the action is reached, then the tension remains constant, while the muscle length increases.
Proprioceptors
Structures in the body that are responsible for detection of the body's position in space.
Muscle Spindles
One of the two main types of proprioceptors in the muscles.
Golgi Tendon Organs
One of the two main types of proprioceptors in the muscles.
