When does cell transport occur?
Cell transport occurs through the cell membrane composed of phospholipid bilayer with polar heads & non-polar traits.
Do small non-polar molecules ( oxygen, CO₂ ) have problems going through the membrane in a process called diffusion?
NO
Is diffusion a type of passive transport?
YES, it moves with the concentration gradient & doesn't require energy.
What in the membrane acts as channels to transport molecules that may be too big (glucose) to just pass through the membrane?
Transport proteins
What is facilitated diffusion?
Movement of specific molecules across cell membranes through transport protein channels.
What is ATP used for?
Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) energy is used to power active transport, if forces molecules to go against the concentration gradient
What is done by energizing the transport protein?
ATP energy powering active transport by forcing molecules against the concertation gradient is done by energizing transport protein.
What is endocytosis?
The process by which molecules that are too big to transport protein are fused with the cell membrane in order to get the molecules inside the cell.
What does the fusion of the cell membrane and oversized molecules form?
The fusion forms a vesicle that is taken into the cell.
Is Exocytosis the same as Endocytosis?
NO, Exocytosis is the opposite of Endocytosis.
What is exocytosis?
It is the process that sends out valuable materials needed by the cell.
Does exocytosis also get rid of waste?
YES
