Glossary: Lateral Separation
Separation between aircraft at the same altitude expressed in terms of distance or angular displacement between tracks
(M) You may discontinue vertical separation if both the following conditions are met:
The pilots have reported passing over the same NAVAID
If either aircraft is at or above FL180, the aircraft are at least 2 minutes apart
Scenario: Determine if Sep exists (NY)
RNPC distance for a/c on crossing track?
30 miles
(M) When applying distance-based longitudinal separation, separate RNPC-certified aircraft on the same track or crossing tracks by a minimum of 30 miles, and:
_
Using RNAV or ATS surveillance from a common point, determine distance and ensure that the required separation is maintained or increased
Maintain direct communication using VHF/UHF voice
(M) For aircraft on the same track, apply time-based longitudinal separation as indicated below:
15 minutes
10 minutes: Position reports are obtained at least every 40 minutes
(M) Apply distance-based longitudinal separation by:
Maintaining direct communication using VHF/UHF voice (except as permitted in Distance-Based Longitudinal Separation for Same Track)
Requesting DME and/or GNSS position reports at sufficient intervals to ensure that the required separation is maintained or increased
(M) Use Mach-number technique to separate aircraft on the same track, provided that one of the following applies:
The aircraft have reported over a common point
The aircraft have not reported over a common point, and you ensure—through the use of ATS surveillance equipment, ___ , ___, ___, ___, or ___ that the required separation minimum exists or will exist at the common point
DME
ADS-B
RNAV
Automated conflict prediction
CAATS generated times
(M) When applying time-based longitudinal separation, separate RNPC-certified aircraft on same or crossing tracks by a minimum of _____
10 minutes
QM-QX Arrangement
All non-ADS-B aircraft that cross the common boundary _____, transition eastbound _____ traffic to the planned ocean flight level at/abeam _____.
South of NANSO
TALGO
LOMPI
Strip Scenario (LOMPI-JAROM-TALGO)
(M) In RNPC airspace you may use parallel offset techniques, provided:
Aircraft are operating within RNPC high-level controlled airspace
The procedure is used to accomplish an _____
The aircraft to be offset is RNPC-certified and the pilot _____
The minimum offset value ensures a separation of _____
Vertical separation is maintained until the pilot of the offset aircraft reports they are established on the parallel offset track
When the pilot of the offset aircraft reports they are established on the parallel offset track, you may issue a clearance for _____
You request reports to determine the re-establishment of vertical separation
Unless required for further control purposes, do either of the following after vertical separation is re-established:
Cancel the parallel offset.
Clear the offset aircraft to a downstream waypoint or fix on its route of flight
Altitude change
Confirms the capability to offset
At least 10 miles from the edge of the protected airspace of the other aircraft
An altitude change to either aircraft
QM-QX Arrangement
All westbound flights from QX to QM over _____ must route via _____– _____. Ensure that a Mach number is included in the CAATS flight plan at least ___ minutes prior to JEBBY, for all flights proceeding into NY OAC on this route
