inorganic gravel pebbles and dirt are settled out by gravity in a shallow basin and then go to the pump station

sewage flows to persigo plant due to gravity then water get pumped to primary clarifier

primary clarifier

organic fecal matter settles to the bottom and is scraped out a skimmer at the top removes oil and floating material 90 percent of the organic material is removed and the water goes to the aeration basin

aeration basin

the top fluid portion of the primary clarifier which contains about 10 percent of the fecal material is mixed with aerobic microorganisms that break down the fecal material. fluid is then pumped to the final clarifier.

final clarifier (secondary clarifier)

the areobic micro organisms from the aeration basin settle out as “activated sludge”. some of the activated sludge goes back to the begining of the aeration basin where is start digesting incoming sewage. the fluid portion from the top is collected and continues to the UV basin.

anaerobic digestor (def)

digest inorganic fecal matter from the primary clarifiers by using microorganisms. methane is created and then used to fuel a fleet of vehicles.

aerobic digesters (def)

activated sludge that comes from the final clarifier is reduced in the aerobic digestor they end up consuming each other and then die and float to the top.

sludge dewatering (def)

polymers are added to to slude to help seperate it from the water more quickly sludge is dewatered by channeling it between drums and sheets the black sludge can be used as compost.

Methane produced by anaerobic digedter is used to heat the anaerobic digester it is also captured and distributed to grand junction fleet station
