Independent Variable (IV)
A variable that is manipulated to observe its effect on the dependent variable.
Dependent Variable (DV)
The outcome variable that is measured to assess the effect of the independent variable.
Parametric Tests
Statistical tests that assume the data meets certain conditions such as normality and homogeneity.
Non-parametric Statistics
Statistical tests used when data does not meet parametric assumptions, typically for nominal or ordinal data.
Between-Subjects Design
A research design in which different subjects are assigned to different groups.
Within-Subjects Design
A research design where the same subjects are used in all treatment groups.
Complex Comparison
Statistical analysis involving multiple independent variables or groups.
Basic Comparison
Statistical analysis involving only one independent variable.
Longitudinal Studies
Research studies that take place over a long period to observe changes over time.
Crossover Designs
Experimental designs where subjects receive different treatments at various times.
Chi Square Test
A statistical test used to determine if there is a significant association between categorical variables.
Pearson’s r
A measure of the linear correlation between two variables, ranging from -1 to +1.
Multiple Regression
Statistical analysis used to predict the value of a variable based on the value of two or more other variables.
ANOVA (Analysis of Variance)
A statistical method used to compare means among three or more groups.
Spearman Rank Correlation
A non-parametric measure of rank correlation, evaluating the relationship between two variables.
