The Natural Belief in Dualism
The unique capabilities of humans is born from an external agent such as a soul or a mind. We treat objects differently from people.
If an object is shattered it is gone,
The introspection Argument
Because we are capapble of being self aware of experiences which are not present in the physical or have correspondences within the hpysical, we must have a dual nature.
These introspective experiences are argued to be transcendent experiences
The discernibility argument
SImilar to the introspection argument but focuses on that brains have properties that minds could not and vice versa
Coutneragument is that it is a semantic issue
The Cartesian Argument
it is a form of the disceribility argument where the mind has the property of being 100% known to exist due to cognito ergo sum but the body is not 100% known to exist
The Platonic Argument
Plato is the first to have distingusihed the mental and the physical.
It is possible for the mind or soul to exist before the body and exist after the death of the body whether ot can ornot. Noncoporeal existence can be argued without contradiction with coherence. if it is possible to do so, then the mind cannot be identical with the body
It’s possible for the body to survive the death of the mind
Parapsychology Argument
Therre are reports of ghosts
Coutnerargument: Ghosts do not intervene with the hpysical world that much or do so in a clear manner
The need for evidence
The arguments with materialism and dualism has been inconclusive. More research needs to be done into the nature of human death
