The US government should provide clean fresh water to native Americans who live in rural communities even if it cost billions to build pipelines
Agree. "Closing the water access Gap in the United States" show that Native Americans are more likely to have trouble accessing water than any other group. Some Ground water in the western US contaminated by uranium mines. 58 out of 1000 Native households lack plumbing, compared to the 3 out of 1000 in White House holds.
Food and cash crops grown in the US that require a lot of water to grow should be prohibited.
Disagree. Cash crops such as cotton, corn, wheat, and sugarcane take a lot of water to gore, yet they are the economic backbone they generate billion of dollars annually for the US. The growth of these crops supports the livelihoods of farmers. A halt to cash crop production would cause the economic status of the US to decline significantly.
Racial inequality and differences in socioeconomic status hace resulted in unsafe drinking water for some urban residents in large cities in the US.
Agree. People of color are more likely to live without piped water. City and state officials denied for months that there was a serious problem in Flint. Flint MI is 60% Black and more than 40% are poor and look what happened in Flint.
The US gov should support Americans and redirect money to replace lad service pipes in cities like flint.
Agree. Some water service lines in flint were installed between 1901 to 1920. Lead in these pipes cause people to get very sick or to even die. High blood lead levels are especially harmful to children and pregnant women causing learning disabilities, behavioral problems and mental retardation.
Inter-Basin water transfer projects like vista ridge and Marvin Nichols Reservoir should be prevented.
Agree. projects like these are expensive to implement and maintain. Water quality can be compromised, leading to poor water quality and increased treatment cost. Economic growth in the area can be hindered by water transfer projects.
Given the UN ranked 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The #6 goal, clean water and sanitation should be higher
Agree, Safe Drinking Water, is still out of reach for billions. 2.4 Billion people live in water stressed countries. Getting safe water to people is way more important than goal 5 ,Gender equality, you can't have gender equality if people are dead from not having water.
The Industrial Revolution in the US has decreased water avaliablitity in least developed countries and the US should be required send money to these countries to provide safe drinking water.
Disagree. Before we start aiding other countries we need to make sure the millions of Americans that lack clean water get clean water. It is not the USA responsibility to intervene with other countries water situation. Providing financial aid to these countries is just a waste of tax payers money, we could be aiding out own citizens with the taxpayers money.
Education of US students on water issue is not impactful. The federal gov must make legislative efforts to protect ground and surface water for drinking.
Disagree. The Federal Government is not going to protect every ground and surface water source that is used for drinking. Educating students about water issues increases the chance they do something about it in their community instead of waiting on the government to maybe do something. Teaching students in the US about water scarcity as well as water quality just helps students understand how valuable water is.
