LAB PART 1: EXPOSURE AN OUTBREAK OF INFLUENZA

what was the purpose of part 1?

to stimulate an infectious diseaase outbreak through social interactions in the classroom

what activities were completed in this portion of the lab?

everyone in LAB 11 was given a vial of body fluids and asked to exchange fluids with 3 random people in this lab after that we investigated who was the original affected person in the lab

what materials were used in the lab?

• vial of clear solution

• 96 well plate

• eyedropper

• phenol red indicator solution

LAB 1 PROTOCAL: MEET AND GREET

1. select a vial

2. write down your name on notecard

3. take 100ul from your vial and pipette it into the 96 well plate

4. find classmate - swap solutions with them via the eyedropper

5. take 100ul of your new solution and pipette into the 96 well plate again

6. repeat again - until we have 4 wells full

7. the TA then added phenol red solution to the last section of every persons well to see who was infected
