Pure Obligation
An obligation whose effectivity or extinguishment does not depend on the fulfillment of a condition or the expiration of a period.
Conditional Obligation
An obligation whose effectivity is subordinated to the fulfillment or non-fulfillment of a future and uncertain event.
Suspensive Condition
A condition that, when fulfilled, creates or gives rise to the obligation.
Resolutory Condition
A condition that, when fulfilled, ends or extinguishes the obligation.
Potestative Condition
A condition whose happening is dependent solely on the will of one party.
With a Period
An obligation that depends on a future and certain event.
Facultative Obligation
An obligation where only one prestation is agreed upon, but the debtor may give another in substitution.
Alternative Obligation
An obligation where several prestations are due, but only one is required.
Joint Obligation
An obligation where each creditor can demand only their proportionate share from each debtor.
Solidary Obligation
An obligation where any creditor can demand the entire obligation from any debtor.
Divisible Obligation
An obligation capable of partial performance.
Indivisible Obligation
An obligation not capable of partial performance.
Penal Clause
An accessory undertaking attached to an obligation to ensure its performance by stipulating indemnity in case of breach.
