Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
A plan developed for managing emergency situations in athletic settings.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
A lifesaving technique used in emergencies when someone's breathing or heartbeat has stopped.
Golden Hour
The critical first hour following an injury in which prompt care is essential for survival.
Primary Survey
An initial assessment of a patient to determine life-threatening conditions.
Secondary Survey
A more detailed assessment of the patient's injuries after the primary survey.
Hemorrhage
An abnormal discharge of blood, which can be external or internal.
Shock

A method used to help relieve choking by striking the individual between the shoulder blades.

A procedure for dislodging an object from the airway of a choking person.

Tools used to maintain an open airway during respiratory distress.
Systolic Blood Pressure
The pressure in the arteries when the heart beats.
Internal Hemorrhage
Bleeding that occurs inside the body and is not visible outwardly.
External Bleeding Control
Methods used to manage blood loss from a wound, commonly through direct pressure and elevation.
Compression
The application of pressure to control bleeding and reduce swelling.
Elevation
Raising an injured limb to help control bleeding and swelling.
RICE Protocol
Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation; a common treatment method for acute injuries.
POLICE Protocol
Protection, Optimal Loading, Ice, Compression, Elevation; an updated approach for managing acute musculoskeletal injuries.
Splinting
A method of immobilizing an injured body part to prevent further injury.
Two-Person Carry
A method used for safely moving someone who is injured.
Log Roll Technique
A method for safely turning a patient with suspected spinal injuries.
Spinal Motion Restriction
A technique used to prevent motion of the spinal column during transport.
Nasopharyngeal Airway (NPA)
A flexible tube that is inserted into the nasal passage to secure an open airway.
