Motherboard
A component that contains all your computer's processing and support components.
ATX
Stands for Advanced Technology eXtended, a standard proposed by Intel in 1995 for motherboards.
Processor
Also known as the Central Processing Unit, it is responsible for executing instructions, performing basic arithmetic, logic, controlling, and handling input/output operations.
Processor Speed
Measured in GHz (gigahertz) and considers the number of execution cores and threads.
Memory
Also known as RAM (Random Access Memory), used by the processor to store working data and is usually volatile.
RAM Capacity
Generally measured in GB (gigabytes) while speed is currently measured in MHz (megahertz).
Storage
Includes Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) and Solid State Disk Drives (SSDs), which are Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) devices.
Storage Capacity
Measured in GB (gigabytes) or TB (terabytes).
HDD Speed
Measured in RPM (revolutions per minute).
Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)
Complements the CPU in processing graphics-intensive software like games and 3D modelling software.
Integrated Graphics
Graphics processing included in most modern processors that share resources with the RAM.
Discrete GPU
Comes with its own video RAM and high-end ones include ray tracing.
GPU Clock Speed
Usually measured in MHz (megahertz) or in TFLOPS (teraflops -> floating point operations per second).
Dial-up Networks
Early networks of computers that communicated with each other with speeds of 56kbps.
Philippine Internet Connection Date
The Philippines first got connected to the internet on March 29, 1994.
Father of Philippine Internet
Dr. William T. Torres, who served as the head of the National Computer Center.
Wired Connection
Includes DSL, Fiber, Ethernet cable, and their respective speeds.
DSL
Direct Subscriber Line, with speeds of up to 10Mbps on PLDT.
Fiber
Fiber Optic Cable, with speeds of up to 1000Mbps on PLDT.
Ethernet Cable
Also known as RJ-45, speed depends on switch/router.
Mobile Networks
Includes 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G with speeds of up to 85Mbps on Globe LTE (actual test).
Wi-Fi
Wireless Fidelity, operating at 2.4GHz and 5GHz with speeds up to 600Mbps (2.4) and 1300Mbps (5).
Satellite Internet
Pioneered by Elon Musk's Starlink, with speeds of up to 150 Mbps.
