Primitive Reflexes
Involuntary motor responses originating in the brainstem, necessary for brain development and survival.
Integration
The process of primitive reflexes becoming dormant to allow for normal development of motor functions.
Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD)
A condition where the brain struggles to receive and respond to sensory information.
Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (ATNR)
A reflex that emerges at 18 weeks in utero, assisting with early motor patterns and integration during the birthing process.
Moro Reflex
Also known as the startle reflex, present at birth and responsible for the initial breath of life.
Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex (TLR)
A reflex linked to the vestibular system, responsible for developing head control and muscle tone.
Spinal Galant Reflex
Present at birth, facilitates mobility through vibrations registered on the vertebral column.
Container Baby Syndrome
A condition caused by excessive time spent in restrictive seating that limits free movement.
Vestibular System
A sensory system located in the inner ear that helps with balance and coordination.
Retained Reflexes
Reflexes that do not integrate properly and can interfere with development and daily functioning.
