Linear Motion (Translation)
all points of an object or system move at the same linear velocity
Rotation
all points of an object or system move at the same angular velocity about a fixed axis
General motion
a combination of translation and rotation. The axis of rotation is in motion
-most human movement consists of this motion
Kinematic chains
motion at multiple joints allows:
-greater degrees of freedom in movement
-greater velocity of distal endpoint
disadvantage: more complex control
Throwing Motion
-sequential segment acceleration
-generate high velocity
ex: a baseball pitch
Pushing Motion
-simultaneous segment acceleration
-higher accuracy possible
ex: darts
