Sexual Reproduction
The process involving the production of gametes (sperms and ova) in organisms, resulting in offspring that are genetically diverse.
Sperm
The male gamete that is motile and produced in large numbers in the testes.
Ovum
The female gamete, which is larger than sperm, non-motile, and produced in smaller quantities in the ovaries.
Puberty
The period of sexual maturation during which the production of germ cells begins and secondary sexual characteristics develop.
Testes
The primary male reproductive organs responsible for sperm production and hormone secretion.
Vas Deferens
The duct that carries sperm from the epididymis to the urethra.
Urethra
The common duct that passes urine and semen out of the body.
Menstruation
The monthly cycle where the uterine lining builds up and is shed if fertilization does not occur.
Gestation Period
The duration of time a developing embryo or fetus is carried in the uterus, typically around nine months in humans.
Menarche
The onset of menstruation, marking the beginning of a woman's reproductive years.
Menopause
The cessation of menstruation that typically occurs between ages 45-55.
Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
Infections that are primarily transmitted through sexual contact, caused by bacteria or viruses.
Barrier Methods
Contraceptive methods designed to prevent sperm from reaching the ovum, such as condoms and diaphragms.
Hormonal Birth Control
Methods that use hormones to prevent ovulation, including oral contraceptive pills.
Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP)
The process of inducing an abortion to terminate pregnancy.
