area of enlarged shape
original area x scale factor2
finding the scale factor
the number by which you multiply each side of a shape to create the enlarged shape
centre of enlargement
the coordinate point from which the enlargement is projected on a coordinate grid
enlargement
when a shape becomes larger or smaller (change in size) but keeps the same proportions. Angles stay the same.
translation
the movement of a shape. It keeps its same size, shape and orientation.
Shift vector provides the directions on a co-ordinate grid (x over y)
reflection
axis on a coodinate grid tells you where to reflect the shape
rotation
to rotate a shape you need the coordinates for the centre of rotation, the direction of rotation (anti/clockwise), the magnitude of rotation (90/180o)
Find the centre of rotation
Link the same points with a line. Find half way. Create a right angled triangle, where the vertical side is the same length as the length from middle of the line to the end of the line.
