Holds a spool of thread.

Large knob on the right side of the machine; manually raises and lowers the needle.

Controls the length of the stitch; shorter for finer fabrics, longer for heavier fabrics.

Machine sews in reverse while this lever is pushed.
Reverse stitch lever
Off-on switch, usually located on the right side beneath the hand wheel.
Power switch
Guides thread when a bobbin is being wound.

Controls the tension on the top thread.
Thread tension dial
Top thread passes through it and moves up and down with the needle.
Thread take up lever
Holds the needle in place.
Needle clamp screw
Holds fabric in place when lowered using a lever on the back side of the machine.
Presser foot
Covers and protects the bobbin holder while sewing.
Bobbin cover
Releases the bobbin cover for access to the bobbin.
Bobbin cover release button
Pulls fabric forward while sewing.
Feed dog
Pushes the thread through the fabric to form a stitch.
Needle
Metal plate beneath the needle and presser foot; has an opening for the needle and for the feed dogs to help move the fabric forward.
