Cryptic coloration
Blending of an organism with the background of its habitat to avoid detection by predators.
Mimicry
The resemblance of one species (the mimic) to another species (the model) for protection from predators.
Batesian mimicry
Mimicry of an unpalatable species by a palatable one.
Müllerian mimicry
Noxious species converge to look the same, reinforcing their distasteful design.
Predator satiation
Synchronous production of many offspring by a population to satiate predators and allow some offspring to survive.
Aggressive mimicry
When predators mimic harmless models to approach and capture prey.
Lotka-Volterra model
Mathematical model describing the dynamics of predator-prey interactions.
Maximum sustainable yield (MSY)
The largest number of individuals that can be removed from a population without causing long-term changes to its numbers.
Intimidation
Behavior displayed by some organisms to deter predators, such as puffing up in size.
Aposematic coloration
Warning coloration that signals to potential predators that an organism is toxic or unpalatable.
