What is System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) ?

A set of activities that can be grouped into a cycle of sequential phases used to build an information systems.

• Systems investigation

• Systems analysis

• Systems design

• Systems implementation

• Systems maintenance

What is System Investigation in SDLC ?

Planning stage where a project request or project proposal is submitted.

• A steering committee will evaluate and assess all possible systems development that a firm may undertake.

• feasibility of a proposed system can be evaluated in terms of five categories:

1. Operational feasibility

2. Technical feasibility

3. Economic feasibility

4. Human factor feasibility

5. Legal/political feasibility

What is System Analysis in SDLC ?

A phase that discovers why a system should be built by identifying the goal and objectives

• The systems analyst studies the existing system and carries out the following activities:

1. Study how the current system works using data and information gathering techniques.

2. Determines user requirements

3. Recommends a solution. The solution is a logical design or logical model.

What is System Design in SDLC ?

consists of three activities:

• interface design

• data design

• programs design.

What is System Implementation in SDLC ?

What is Outsourcing/Offshoring and what does it achieve ?

The practice of hiring a party outside a company to perform services or create goods

• frees a company to focus on its core business.

• When costs of running a company are cheaper in another country, the company may choose to move their activities or offices abroad to reduce costs.
