Urinary Retention
An accumulation of urine due to the inability of the bladder to empty.
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
An infection that develops when microbes/bacteria enter the urinary tract, often due to indwelling catheters.
Urinary Incontinence
Involuntary leakage of urine.
Urinary Diversions
Procedure that diverts urine to an external source, commonly involving a stoma.
Transient Incontinence
Temporary loss of bladder control that often resolves over time.
Urge Incontinence
An involuntary loss of urine associated with a strong urge to void.
Stress Incontinence
Loss of urine during physical activity due to increased abdominal pressure.
Overflow Incontinence
Involuntary leakage of urine when the bladder is overfull.
Mixed Incontinence
Combination of stress and urge incontinence.
Functional Incontinence
Inability to reach the toilet in time due to physical or cognitive impairments.
Diuresis
Increased urine formation.
Nocturia
Frequent urination at night.
Dysuria
Painful or difficult urination.
Hematuria
Blood in urine.
Pneumaturia
Passage of gas in urine.
Hesitancy
Difficulty starting urination.
Polyuria
Excessive urine production.
Oliguria
Low urine output.

Absence of urine.
Dribbling
Leakage of urine after completing urination.
Intermittent Catheterization
Using a single-use straight catheter to drain the bladder for a short period.
Indwelling Catheter
A catheter that remains inside the body for an extended period to provide continuous urine drainage.
Suprapubic Catheter
A catheter inserted through the abdominal wall above the pubic bone.
Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI)
Method to flush the bladder to maintain patency and prevent clot formation.
Ostomy Appliance
A pouch worn by patients with an incontinent urinary diversion to collect urine.
Nephrostomy
A procedure to place a catheter into the renal pelvis to drain urine.
Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI)
An infection that occurs due to the presence of a catheter in the urinary tract.
Bladder Scan
A non-invasive method to measure residual urine volume after urination.
Aseptic Technique
A procedure used to minimize contamination during catheter insertion.
