Vertical Shift Up
Adding a constant to a function: f(x) + k
Vertical Shift Down
Subtracting a constant from a function: f(x) - k
Horizontal Shift Left
Adding a constant to the x-values of a function: f(x + k)
Horizontal Shift Right
Subtracting a constant from the x-values of a function: f(x - k)
Vertical Dilation
Multiplying a function by a constant: kf(x)
Horizontal Dilation
Multiplying the x-values by a constant: f(kx)
Even Function Examples
f(x) = 2x² - 6
Odd Function Examples
f(x) = 3x3, f(x) = 2x
Domain
x-values, Input, Independent Variable
Range
y-values, Output, Dependent Variable, f(x)
Function
A relation where one input should never give 2 different outputs (no repeating x-values)
Rate of Change
Slope between two points
Growth
y = 1.03x, 1.03 > 1
Decay
y = 0.97x, 0.97 < 1
Linear Relationship
Earning $150 each week, The cost of ordering x number of items
Exponential Relationship
Earning 4% interest annually on an amount invested, a quantity tripling in value each week, Bacteria growth
Linear
Same number added each time to y
Exponential
Same number multiplied by y each time
