What is the Cerebrum?
Cerebrum is the largest structure of the brain.
What is the Corpus Callosum?
Connects the 2 cerebral hemispheres
What are brain Fissures?
Deep groves in brain surface;
Longitudinal Fissure: Separates the right & left cerebral hemispheres
Transverse Fissure: Separates the cerebrum from the cerebellum.
What is the function of the Frontal Lobe?
Responsible for planning & executing movement & complex mental functions such as behavior, conscience, & personality.
What is the function of the Parietal Lobe?
Responsible for processing & integrating sensory information and functions in attention.
What is the function of the Temporal Lobe?
Responsible for hearing, language, memory, and emotions.
What is the function of the Occiptial Lobe?
Process vision.
What is the function of the Insulas?
Responsible for taste and viscera (internal organs).
What is White Matter?
Contains myelinated axons that connect neuron cell bodies in cerebral cortex to other portions of nervous system.
What is the Cerebral Cortex?
Thin layer of gray matter which makes up outermost layer of the cerebrum.
What are the three divisions of the Cerebral Cortex?
Primary motor cortex
Primary sensory cortices
Association Areas
What are the functions of the Basal Nuclei?
Produce dopamine
Executive Function
Help control voluntary motor movement.
What are Commissural Fibers?
Commissural fibers connect right & left hemispheres; found in corpus callosum.
What are Projection fibers?
Projection fibers connect cerebral cortex of one hemisphere with other areas of same hemisphere, other parts of brain, and spinal cord.
What are Association Fibers?
Association fibers are restricted to a single hemisphere.
What is the Limbic System?
Structures in the cerebrum & diencephalon involved in emotion, motivation, learning, and memory associated with emotions & survival.
