Complex Schedule of Reinforcement
Any schedule that combines two or more simple schedules of reinforcement.
Conjunctive Schedule of Reinforcement
A schedule that requires the completion of at least two simple schedules before reinforcement is given.
Adjusting Schedule
A schedule where the criteria for reinforcement changes once the initial criteria have been met.
Chained Schedule
A sequential combination of two or more simple schedules, where each has its own discriminative stimulus.
Discriminative Stimulus
A stimulus that signals the availability of reinforcement for a particular behavior.
Goal Gradient Effect
The increase in the strength and efficiency of behaviors as a goal becomes nearer.
Backward Chaining
A procedure used to develop a chain of behaviors by starting with the final link and working backward.
Reinforcing Stimulus
A stimulus that follows a behavior and increases the likelihood of that behavior occurring again.
Shaping
Gradually developing a new behavior by reinforcing successive approximations of that behavior.
GPA Inflation
The increase in average GPAs in education without a corresponding increase in student intelligence or performance.
