What does a z-score indicate?
How many stdevs above/below the mean an observation is.
Formula for calculating z-score
z = xi - μ / σ
Formula for calculating a sample value based off z-score
xi = zσ + μ
What is cumulative relative frequency?
The total percentage of observations at or below the value.
How do you use a z-table?
The 4-digit values are the percentiles, and the x and y-axes are the corresponding z-scores.
Use the z-table to calculate the z-score of a 28th percentile.
Locate 0.2800 in the table (it’s negative because 28th is left of the median). The closest z-score is -0.58.
