What are the components of the muscular system?
Muscles, tendons and aponeuroses
What are the functions of the skeletal muscles? (5)
Movement, control entrances and exits, produce heat, protect soft tissues, support skeleton.

What are the two types of skeletal muscles?
Axial and appendicular
What is the function of the axial muscles?
Support and positioning of the axial skeleton
Example of axial muscles
Central core muscles, e.g thorax e.g intercoastal muscles, facial muscles
What is the function of the appendicular muscles?
Support and move limbs (biceps, triceps quadriceps, hamstrings)
Broad function of tendons and aponeuroses
Translate contractile forces into tasks (flexion, extension)
What is a tendon + fx ?
Connects muscle to bone - rope like, fibrous connection, strong
What is aponeuroses and fx?
Muscle to muscle connection - broad and sheet-like (also connects to bone)
