mechanism of action

  • Inhibits synthesis of mycolic acids which are an essential components of mycobacterial cell walls

  • Latent TB:  take 1 tab PO daily for 9 mos (contraindicated in HIV infection, children under 2, pregnancy)

  • Active TB: typically combined with other meds like rifampin. Can take between 6 mos & 2 years to treat
