Air Compounds
Chemical substances present in the atmosphere that can impact health.
Primary Pollutants
Pollutants that come directly from a source without being formed from the reaction of other pollutants.
Secondary Pollutants
Pollutants that are formed when primary pollutants chemically react with each other.
Troposphere
The lowest layer of the atmosphere where weather occurs and most air pollution is found.
Photochemical Smog
Air pollution formed when sunlight reacts with primary pollutants, primarily ozone.
Sick-building Syndrome (SBS)
Health issues experienced by individuals in certain buildings, alleviating when they leave.
Radon
A colorless, odorless radioactive gas that contributes to lung cancer after prolonged exposure.
Asbestos
A material used in insulation that can cause lung damage and mesothelioma when inhaled.
Formaldehyde
A colorless gas found in various household materials, causing irritation to eyes and lungs.
VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)
Organic chemicals that evaporate quickly and can contribute to air pollution and health problems.
Catalytic Converters
Devices in vehicles that reduce harmful emissions by converting them into less harmful gases.
Thermal Inversion
A weather condition where warm air traps pollutants close to the ground, reducing air quality.
Stratosphere
ozone layer is located here, where planes fly
Thermosphere
Satellites and the Northern Lights are found here
