Order of Operations
A rule that tells you the sequence to follow when you are performing operations in a mathematical expression.
PEMDAS
Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division (from left to right), Addition and Subtraction (from left to right)
Exponent
The exponent of a number says how many times to use the number in a multiplication.
Base
The number that is multiplied when using an exponent.
Parentheses Rule
Parentheses ALWAYS goes first.
Exponents Rule
Exponents come before Multiplication/Division and Addition/Subtraction.
Multiplication and Division Rule
Do the problems from left to right.
Addition and Subtraction Rule
Do the problems from left to right.
