Voluntary Eye Movements
Eye movements that depend more on self-initiated behavior, often referred to as endogenous.
Endogenous Eye Movements
Eye movements that are triggered internally and do not depend on external stimulation.
Exogenous Eye Movements
Eye movements that are triggered by external stimuli.
Frontal Eye Field (FEF)
A brain region involved in the control of voluntary eye movements, located at the intersection of the superior frontal sulcus and the precentral sulcus.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
A non-invasive method that disrupts brain activity by emitting a brief magnetic pulse, which can be excitatory or inhibitory.
Superior Prefrontal Cortex (SPFC)
A region of the brain implicated in generating voluntary (endogenous) saccades as indicated by the effects of TMS.
Superior Parietal Lobule (SPL)
A brain region involved in generating visually guided (exogenous) saccades.
Saccadic Eye Movements
Rapid movements of the eye that occur during visual scanning.
Contralesional Saccades
Saccades directed towards the side opposite of a brain lesion.
Ipsilesional Saccades
Saccades directed towards the same side as a brain lesion.
