able to work but unemployed, supported until they find employment

capable but refusing to work, undeserving of support, often criminalised
Critiques of the Charity Model
Frames disability as something negative (struggle)
Also often the only way people learn about disability
Frames non disabled people as the saviours for disabled people
Good cripple
expectation that disabled people will behave in a certain way to be considered worthy of charity
Bad cripple
disabled people who aren’t trying to get better and are framed as blaming their disability on nondisabled people

Validates the needs of disabled people
Grants access to life changing medical needs
