President Executive Roles

Commander In Chief Of Military

• In charge of military congress declares war, the president sends military to fight

• President can order military action at any time without asking congress

• War Powers Act (1973) - The president must tell congress why he/she is conducting this military action and to ask permission

Chief Executive

• Controls all of the executive branch

• Appoints all leaders of the executive branch (with many states approved)

Chief Diplomat

• Signs treaties

• Meets with foreign leaders

• Appoints ambassadors to other countries

• Decides whether or not to officially recognize a foreign country

Chief Legislator

• Signs or vetoes laws passed by congress

• Gives yearly state of the union address in congress

• Proposes and/or presents legislation

(Executive Orders)

Party Leader

• Leader of his or her political party

• Helps raise money for candidates running for office

• Helps gather support for fellow party canidates

Crisis Manager

• In times of disaster or crisis the president coordinates the government response

Head Of State

• He speaks for our notion.. their words matter because they represent what other nations think of the Us

• The president sometimes throws out the first pitch at baseball games attends funerals of world leaders and pardons a turkey on thanksgiving 
  amoung other duties
