  • After he died the palace was no longer owned by a religious bishop so Bankside began to lose its religious importance

  • The fabric of St Marie's Ovarie survived the dissolution of religious houses in the 1530s by Henry VIII
  • Unlike other monastic buildings at the time it wasn't pulled down and instead was leased and later purchased by townspeople
  • Became the town's new parish church dedicated to St Saviour

  • The fire meant lots of land was cleared, that could later be developed into industrial buildin
