Energy
The ability to do work, capable of being transformed from one form to another.
Electromagnetic Radiation
Radiation that has both electrical and magnetic components.
Wavelength
Distance between two successive crests or troughs of a wave, measured in angstroms or nanometers.
Frequency
The number of waves passing a given point per unit of time, measured in Hertz (Hz).
Photon
A small, discrete bundle of energy that acts as a particle when interacting with matter.
Absorbed Dose
The amount of radiation energy absorbed by matter, measured in rads or gray.
Radiation Exposure
Quantifies the amount of ionization in a specified amount of air, often measured in roentgen.
Dose Equivalent
Used to measure occupational radiation exposure; it accounts for the biological effects of different types of ionizing radiation.
Quality Factor
A factor used in calculating dose equivalent, accounts for the biological damage of different types of radiation.
Cardinal Principles of Protection
Shielding, time, and distance, strategies to minimize radiation exposure.
Ten Day Rule
Guideline advising that radiological examinations of women of reproductive age should be conducted during the first 10 days after the onset of menstruation.
