What is glucose?
A hexose monosaccharide sugar contain in six carbons. Furthermore, it is the main substrate for respiration where it is oxidized to release energy
What is the formula for glucose, furthermore what are the two isomers of glucose?
C6H12O6. it can exist as alpha or beta glucose
How is the six membered glucose ring created?
In glucose carbon atom-1 combines with carbon atom-5, forming is six membered ring
What is the difference between the alpha and beta glucose molecules
In the alpha glucose, the hydroxyl group of carbon 1 projects below.
Whereas in beta glucose, the hydroxyl group of carbon-1 projects above
What is sucrose
A disaccharide with the formula C12H22O4 consisting of two simple sugars, glucose and fructose, normal culinary sugar
Characteristics of sucrose
Sucrose is common table sugar.
It is a disaccharide, a molecule composed of two monosaccharides: glucose and fructose.
Sucrose is produced naturally in plants, in this form, sucrose is transported through cell sap. Sucrose has 1, 2-glycosidic bonds
Therefore what molecules are needed to create a sucrose molecule and what type of reaction will occur in the process
Sucrose is made via a condensation reaction between alpha glucose and fructose
Why does sucrose has a good ability to be transported
This is because it is soluble, relatively unreactive chemically and has the ability to move efficiently in large concentrations
