Which system regulates the engine?
Electronic Engine Control (EEC)
How many channels does each EEC have?
Two
What does the EEC do?
Monitors autothrottles and flight crew input to automatically set engine thrust
What is the indication an EEC is operating in normal mode?
White ON lights only lights illuminated on the associated EEC switch

What are the indications of EEC hard alternate and soft alternate modes?
Soft Mode - ALTN and ON
Hard Mode (via thrust to idle) - ALTN and ON
Hard Mode (manual selection) - ALTN

The EECs provide redline overspeed protection for which engine parameters(s)?
N1 and N2 in both normal and alternate modes
When do the EECs select (3) and deselect approach idle?
Flaps 15 or greater
OR
Flaps >0 and engine anti-ice
If fault prevents EEC from receiving flap or anti-ice signal
19,000’ MSL
DESELECTED
After touchdown - ground minimum idle
What does the ENGINE CONTROL light indicate and when is it armed?
A non-dispatchable fault in EEC
Operates when:
Engine is operating
AND
on ground
AND
below 80 kts prior to takeoff OR 30 seconds after touchdown

When is the ENG FAIL alert displayed? When does it extinguish?
On the EGT indicator:
Below sustainable idle (62%)
AND
Engine start lever is in the IDLE position
Remains until:
Engine recovers
Start lever moved to CUTOFF
Fire switch is pulled
How are the secondary engine instruments toggled?
ENG selected on MFD panel (toggled)

How are EGT redline exceedances indicated?
EGT - amber caution limit
Red or amber line
Digit readout, box, needle, and indicator change color to red or amber.
How is an EGT exceedance displayed after engine shutdown?
After engine shutdown, a box the color of the exceedance (red or amber) displays around digital readout where the exceedance occurred

How is the N1/SPD REF SET page displayed on the Max Display System?
INFO on the MFD panel

What does the THRUST crew alert on the Engine Display indicate?
Thrust is more or less than commanded
N1 command sector illuminates AMBER

What are the indications of reverse thrust on the Engine Display? (2)
REV (amber) - thrust reverser moved from stowed position
REV (green) - thrust reverser is deployed

What does selecting FUEL USED display?
Fuel used since the last reset - 10 seconds
THEN
Fuel flow

What does the illumination of the FUEL FLOW crew alert indicate?
Fuel flow abnormally high compared to the FMC expected fuel flow

What does the illumination of the OIL FILTER BYPASS light indicate?
Impending bypass of oil supply filter

Which engine start ignitor is available on standby power?
Right igniter plug
*We start the day on IGN R to verify standby AC bus

The auto-relight function of the Engine Start System is available when the engine start switches are in which position(s)?
Any position
What does MOTORING on the N2 indicator indicate?
Bowed Rotor Motoring (BRM)
Straightens N1, N2 rotor shafts which bow due to thermal buildup after shut down
6-90 seconds
Ground only
N2 between 18% and 24%

Which start malfunction(s) do the EECs monitor for during engine start?
Ground start:
hot starts
wet starts
engine stalls
EGT start limit exceedance
In-flight start:
No protections
What happens if a hot start or compressor stall is detected during engine start?
Rapid rise in EGT, EGT approaching start limit, or compressor stall
Box surrounding EGT digital readout flashes white
EEC turns off ignition
EEC shuts off fuel
Flashing white box resets when start lever moved to CUTOFF
What does the illumination of the REVERSER LIMITED light indicate?
Fault in thrust reverser system limits reverser thrust
Thrust reverser will not deploy or reverse thrust limited to idle if commanded
Illuminates on ground when malfunction has occurred

What does the illumination of the REVERSER COMMAND light indicate?
Reverse thrust lever not in down position in flight

What does the APU provide?
Bleed Air
AC electrical power
Does the APU require the BAT switch to be on to operate?
YES
APU operation requires:
BAT switch ON
APU fire switch IN
APU fire control handle IN
How long should the APU run after illumination of the APU GEN OFF BUS light before opening the APU bleed valve?
Two minutes before using as bleed air source
Extends service life of APU
How long after APU switch selected OFF before selecting BAT switch OFF?
Five minutes after APU GEN OFF BUS light extinguishes
Allows adequate time for APU inlet door to fully close
What will cause the automatic shutdown of the APU? (7)
Automatic shutdown protection is provided for:
Overspeed
Low oil pressure
High oil temperature
EGT exceedance
APU fire
Fuel Control Unit failure
System faults monitored by ECU
