Wide range of support services to allow students with and without disabilities to be involved in gen. ed classroom, extracurriculars, and more school related activities; Accommodations & Modifications
Accommodation
Changes in HOW students learn curriculum (ex. same math but fewer problems)
Modifications
WHAT a student learns is different and usually some curriculum has been removed (ex. focus on learning more important vocab compared to all the vocab)
Physical Integration
All students are in the same classroom when possible.
Social Integration
Relationships fostered between all students
Instructional Integration
Taught the same curriculum w/ accommodations and specifically designed instruction.
Individualized Education Program
A student needs to be identified with one of the 13/14 disabilities and is shown it has an effect on their academics; legal document; lists annual goals and short term objectives; outlines specific services student needs, behavior intervention plan, and justification for placement

A plan on how barriers will be removed so a student can learn in the general ed. classroom; includes accommodations and assistive technology.
Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE)
Students w/ disabilities are entitled to public education w/ their specific services at no cost to parents.
Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)
Students w/ disabilities are taught in the setting most similar to students w/out disabilities that they can succeed with services
Intersectionality
How your different identities combine to make your full identity; you cannot separate identities from each other (ex. lived experiences, race, disability, etc.)
Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
Allows teachers to coordinate work and focus efforts on helping students succeed (3 tiers); allows for early identification and support of any student with learning and/or behavior needs
MTSS Tier 1
Universal Instruction; Gen. Ed. teacher provides evidence based instruction to all students.
MTSS Tier 2
Targeted small group intervention; Gen. ed. teacher provides tier 1 instruction and supports; collaborate with tier 2 interventions and collect data.
MTSS Tier 3
Intensive Individual Intervention; typically provided by special educaiton teacher/specialist; teach 1-2 students
Pre-Referral
MTSS Tiers done, teach with fidelity, have data and documentation
Referral
Refer to see if student should do an evaluation
Parent must approve to evaluate
Evaluation (at least every 3 years)
Determination of Eligibility (does the student have a disability, does it have significant impact on learning, do they need specifically designed instruction
