Chapter 1
It’s valentines day (Lindsay husband flair)
They leave and are to be back by 20:00
Sara has to stay
Chapter 2
They arrive at the rock
Some of them go up close to it
Albert and Mike see them
Chapter 3
The girls are stunned by the rock and begin to climb.
They sleep at the top of the Rock.
Edith is scared and runs for help.
Chapter 4
Mrs Appleyard checks up on Sara and how she is working, but Sara refuses to memorise poem. Escalates tensions
The picnic group arrive back late without the girls and Ms McCraw.
Mrs Appleyard tries to understand what happened, but everyone is too shocked and tired to speak.
Chapter 5
Everyone struggled to sleep after the events that occurred yesterday.
Mrs Appleyard cancels all trips out of the school to prevent the news from spreading and does not let any news reporter in.
Edith has no memory of the events that happened at the Rock but knows that Ms McCraw, a spinster, was walking without her clothes on.
Police search for the missing people but cannot find them, so ask for statements from the two men.
Chapter 6
Albert and Mike talk about the disappearance and are worried for the girls.
Edith does not provide any more useful information
The search continues at the Rock.
Mike is allowed to ride with Albert but lies about where he is going (the rock)
Chapter 7
Mike and Albert meet up early in the morning and begin their journey.
Mike searches for Miranda on the Rock.
Mike hears Albert calling him and realises that he has to return, so marks his trail with paper. Mike stays at the Rock and has a nightmare about Miranda.
Chapter 8
Albert returns to Lake View and lies to the Colonel about where Mike is.
Albert goes in the morning to look for Mike at the Rock and finds Mike collapsed on the Rock.
The next day, Albert looks with others on the Rock and finds Irma Leopold, injured but alive.
She is taken back to Lake View, it is a miracle that she survived.
Chapter 9
Michael is found too unwell to answer questions
Mrs Appleyard tries to cover the problems
Some guardians of the children stop paying fees
Chapter 10
Mike has almost recovered
Irma has no recollection of the event.
Mademoiselle visits Irma and tries to convince her to meet Mike.
Irma and Mike become close and explore all parts of Lake View.
Albert becomes jealous and more stubborn.
Chapter 11
The Colonel and his wife believe that Mike and Irma should be together.
Mrs A. Is becoming increasingly more stressed.
Irma and Mike dream about each other, but are uncertain about everyone.
Chapter 12
Irma has decided to leave the school and writes a letter to Mademoiselle..
Irma meets the girls in the gym, but they act terrified and scared as they are having flashbacks of the picnic.
They attack Irma, one teacher is put in a cupboard, and Sara is stuck to a wall.
Chapter 13
Mrs A. Returns to her office and drinks some alcohol and stresses over the finances/losing students.
Sara is uninterested by the scandal and is asked to have a meeting with Mrs A.
Miss Lumley leaves the college. Later dies in a house fire.
Chapter 14
Albert dreams about his sister
Irma sends Albert money to help find her.
She makes an offer for Albert to work at her house. Albert thanks her and quits his job.
Tom leaves the school and gets Albert's job.
Chapter 15
Mrs. Appleyard claims Sara has already left. She says Sara was a trouble-maker.
Diane (madam) and a maid check Sara's room and find almost nothing missing. There's a stopping clock and a photo of Miranda in the room.
The maid, Alice, also plans to leave the school. Mrs. Appleyard calls Doris Lumley and Sara 'weaklings.' Mrs. Appleyard goes through Miranda and Sara's rooms.
A gardener is working. A letter from Sara's guardian says he's coming there to clear up any problems.
Chapter 16
The policeman Bumpher gets a personal letter from Dianna (the French teacher.)
The letter raises doubts about Mrs. Appleyard's claims Sara had left the school.
Bumpher learns from his wife that Mrs. Appleyard is known for flying into rages.
The gardener finds Sara's body. (how did she die?)
Mrs. Appleyard takes a carriage to near the Rock. She gets out and starts to climb it. She jumps off a cliff and dies.
Chapter 17
Newspaper article that questions everything ,noting the mysterious death of the headmistress, the subsequent destruction of the college in a bushfire, and the sole clue discovered—a fabric scrap believed to be from Miss McCraw's petticoat.
The article mentions the recent death of Edith Horton, a girl who returned from the Rock, and states that Irma Leopold, the only missing student to come back, married well and is now a countess
Despite the passing years, the newspaper concludes that the "College Mystery" is likely to remain unsolved.
