Diffusion is the movement of substances from a region of high to low concentration.

What can diffusion occur across?

Across a membrane if molecules are small enough to pass through.

What factors affect the rate of diffusion?

Size, temperature, distance, surface area, shape of surface.

What does the kinetic theory explain?

Properties of states of matter and diffusion.

What is the arrangement of particles in a solid?

Close together in a regular pattern.

What is the arrangement of particles in a liquid?

Close together in a random pattern.

What is the arrangement of particles in a gas?

Far apart in a random pattern.

What are the properties of solids?

Fixed shape, cannot flow, cannot be compressed.

What are the properties of liquids?

Take container shape, flow, cannot be compressed.

What are the properties of gases?

Fill container, flow, can be compressed.

Where can diffusion happen within?

A mixture of liquids, a mixture of gases, and a mixture of liquids and gases.
