Population
A group of individuals of the same species that inhabit a given area.
Genets
Individuals produced by sexual reproduction.
Ramets
Individuals produced by asexual reproduction.
Clonal colony
A group of ramets.
Distribution
The area over which a population occurs.
Ubiquitous
Species with a wide geographic range.
Endemic
Species with a very limited geographic range.
Metapopulation
Collection of subpopulations that are spatially separated but connected by the movement of individuals.
Abundance
Population size.
Population density
The number of individuals per unit area or volume.
Age pyramid
A graphical depiction showing population structure and growth rate.
Dispersal
The movement of individuals in space.
Emigration
Movement of individuals out of a subpopulation.
Immigration
Movement of individuals into a subpopulation.
Migration
Round-trip movement of individuals.
Invasive species
A non-native species that establishes and spreads in a new range, negatively impacting ecosystems and native species.
